The Watchmen is Prophetic             The Watchmen I think was prophetic to what is happening in real life.   It’s a warning to what could be happening in society and us not even realizing it.   Or it could be coming further down the road.   For instance, in the comic the heroes were fighting crime just to have more crime show up the next day.   It was a never ending cycle that they could never get ahead of and defeat.   Also there was the bigger issue of world war which they were helpless to try and defend except for Mr. Manhattan.   This is sort of the case with our country currently.   There is so much crime going on that we cannot catch up and keep crime at a minimum.   While this is going on our national security is being threatened by more and more countries gaining nuclear capacity.   The most dangerous country of all being North Korea.             In the Watchmen, Veidt decides to protect the greater good of Earth by uniting them against a common opponent.    He decid
Days of Future’s Past             The Sentinels are trying to eliminate all the mutants in the world.   The Sentinels were successful in eradicating nearly all the superheroes/ mutants or at least in capturing them.   Similarly, these are the steps that society is taking in today’s times.   Instead of accepting disabilities or genetic defects, science has learned how to manipulate our genetics.   They have learned how to detect whether a baby will be born with Down syndrome or not and will allow the parents to abort the baby.   This is very similar to how the Sentinel takeover labeled the different types of humans.   They were either “H” for normal human that’s allowed to breed, “A” for a normal human that has potential mutant abilities (not able to breed), and M for a mutant.             In today’s world in addition to being able to detect defects in the early on stages of birth, we’ve now been able to manipulate the genes in order to get certain characteristics.   These ar
Tyler McDonald Media reflecting Diversity             I would say that comics and media have definitely started to reflect diverse audiences.   There are more characters being played by with diverse backgrounds.   For instance, there a homosexual in X-Men who gets married.   Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are lesbian lovers.   The media is making a Black Panther movie this year which I think is a good step in the Superhero/ comic book world.   Nick Fury was white in the comics but in the Avengers he is played by Samuel L. Jackson.   I would say homosexuality has come a long way in the comics/ media and society.   It is far more accepted and featured in tv shows and movies.               I feel like this change is going to last.   It has definitely been a slow process but I think that is the reason it is going to stay.   When an idea is forced on someone it usually isn’t perceived well but when someone is slowly expose to it, it becomes much easier for them to accept/ digest.   I
Tyler McDonald             The assessment of Electra saying she is tough but not tough enough is not a fair assessment.   She is super tough and a bad ass.   She kicks butt and just because she got saved by a superhero male doesn’t mean she is weak or not tough.   Look at the beginning of the comic for example.   Elecktra easily could’ve taken out Daredevil.   I think this more than enough proof to realize that Eleckra is more than tough enough.   She also took down Daredevil without superpowers, just solely her athletic and martial arts abilities.   I also don’t find it a sign of weakness that she kisses Daredevil at the end.             I would say yes that the media does perpetuate the idea that females need protection in this comic and probably a lot of other comics.   But I do believe this is changing.   For example, Iron man 3 Pepper saves Iron-Man from danger at the end of the movie.   In the Wonder Woman movie she saves her “boyfriend” and helps other men to win a war
