Tyler McDonald I believe that sacrifice is absolutely necessary for heroes to be who they are.  Most heroes sacrifice in many ways, especially time.  Their time of "work" isn't dependent on themselves it is dependent on the world and so that means at any time they may have to drop what they are doing to save the city or the world.  Superheroes' sacrifice a normal life to benefit the lives of others.  They sacrifice their working careers, vacations, studies, girlfriends, family, etc.  This isn't to say they can't have those parts of life, it is just way more difficult to share their time with others in their lives.             I feel that people don’t sacrifice much when they are younger but as they grow up and gain power and responsibility they are able to sacrifice stuff for others.   For example, as you get older and get a family or have others that depend on you, you are more likely to ...
Selflessness Waid discussed how Superman is often thought of as a selfless person.   He’s always looking out for the greater good and tries to do the right thing.   But a question was asked that made him think a lot deeper about Superman.   He was asked “Why does Superman do what he does?”   After much thought he realized or believes that superman does it because he is selfless because of his moral type upbringing but it’s also because of his own self-interest.   He does helps others because it helps him to be truly who he is by using his strength and powers.             This often is the case in people’s lives today, you may not realize it right away but I believe that it is true.   I see this in my own life when it comes to volunteer work, especially if it’s for a special cause.   When it comes to volunteer work for the church, part of the reason I do it is because I genuinely want to h...
Kid Heroes/ Sidekicks             Watching the sidekicks in TV shows when I was young was awesome.   The main sidekick/ kid hero I watched as a kid was Robin because Connor and I watched a lot of Batman and Superman shows and Robin was the main sidekick in the Batman shows.   Another show I watch pretty regularly was Teen Titans which I thought was awesome when I was a kid because who didn’t dream of being a superhero.             When watching these shows as kid I never thought about whether it was ethical or right that these kids/ teens were doing this.   Looking at these shows now wasn’t probably the most ethical thing.   Having kids and teens fighting dangerous villains that are trying to kill them and sometimes succeed isn’t good.               Garth otherwise known as Aqualad was a...
Freedom vs. Safety I honestly don’t really know what to think about Snowden’s defiance.   For the fact that I see both sides of the argument.   For instance, I believe that it is wrong to hack our government and release government secrets, or what could possibly be dangerous to our national security.   So for that reason I do not agree with Snowden’s defiance and am against him doing that.             On the other hand what we have found out from that is concerning too.   The fact that the government can track our phone calls and duration kind of concerned me.   After finding out that the NSA goes further than that and goes through our personal emails and phones is scary.   I don’t like that they have the power to do that.   What also makes me mad is that they are going through all our private stuff but how many terrorist acts/ attacks have been stopped by all this? 1, and it was a cab dr...
11 th Hour This would cause the young children to have a very judgmental/ racist view of Japanese people.   This cartoon was racist in the way they portrayed the Japanese people with their big mouths and squinty eyes.   The propaganda the film makers used in this film wasn’t appropriate for a cartoon film.   Although there is a war going on against Japan it still wasn’t right to do.   I understand that it is good to unify the country but doing it in a cartoon isn’t necessary.   Kids have a sharp mind and will remember things like the Japanese stereotypical look that the film makers used.   Children shouldn’t be corrupted with the stereotypes that were portrayed at that time.
Supervillain Type             I would say the sadistic supervillain is the most dangerous because he or she will hurt literally anyone.   Like the Joker for instance, will kill just about anyone to get Batman’s attention.   In that sense anyone could be in his crosshairs.   With a vengeful villain as long as you stay out of the way of who the villain wants to get revenge on you should be okay.   The straightforward villain isn’t that dangerous because they avoid killing someone unless they deem it necessary.   I think that Heroic villains are dangerous because although they see themselves as heroes they will kill innocents for the good of their cause.   I still think that sadistic villains are more dangerous though. With a sadistic supervillain it also doesn’t matter the number of people or how high you are up in society and the protection you may have.   This type of villain just kills f...
Friendships         Friendships have contributed greatly to many of my accomplishments in my life this far and will continue to in the future.   They have helped me in many areas of my life.   They have helped me with my athletics and schooling.   Friendships helped to motivate me to practice and push on and were there to cheer me on at many of my games.   If it wasn’t for my friends I wouldn’t have been the successful athlete that I was in high school or in college.   Two friends in particular helped me to become a better baseball player.   They were always wanting to play baseball and would push me to practice/play with them.   This helped me tremendously and is partially why I am playing baseball in college now.   They also helped me in my schooling.   They would help me with my papers and spell check my papers.   One friend of mine, ...
